If you’re on the hunt for your next job and don’t want a long commute, a career fair and expo Tuesday featuring local employers may be for you.

Organized by the Newmarket Chamber of Commerce, the job fair is open to high school students and any other job seekers who wish to work with local businesses.

The job fair is open to the public from 4 to 8 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Newmarket Community Centre and Lions Hall, Riverwalk Commons, 200 Doug Duncan Dr.

A number of employers who are currently hiring will be at the fair, including Apple Retail, Cube Packaging, Home Depot, Newmarket Library, Investors Group, Seneca Employment, Town of Newmarket, Pfaff Automotive, Newmarket Hydro, Job Skills, Orange Theory, Sports Clips, YMCA Child Care, Qualicare Homecare, NewRoads, Canadian Armed Forces and others.

There will also be interactive displays in carpentry and construction equipment, first aid equipment, welding tools and vehicle diagnostic equipment.

Earlier in the day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Newmarket high school students will learn more about a variety of jobs at a closed session known as the Career Pathways Expo. It is a joint initiative between the public, non-profit and private sectors. Along with providing students an overview of the many different job paths in York Region, the Expo will feature speakers, workshops and interactive tools.
