Newmarket residents and their overnight guests no longer have to stress about where to park that visiting vehicle.

That’s because on April 16 the Town of Newmarket announced it will issue temporary parking passes for $5 per day or $15 for five days. Residents can order the passes online from the comfort of their homes.

The parking exemption program runs from April 16 to Oct. 31 each year, but cannot be used if snow removal or winter road maintenance becomes necessary during this time.

A temporary parking exemption allows individuals to park their cars on the road only in areas where parking longer than three hours is not permitted. Not having a parking pass could land you a $40 ticket.

The pass also does not exempt individuals from following all posted parking regulations, such as no parking zones, in front of fire hydrants, in a fire route or in a bike lane, the town warns.

Running afoul of the town’s parking rules can cost you anywhere from $35 for being parked at an expired meter to $300 for unauthorized parking in a handicapped space, for example.

Individuals are limited to a maximum of 15 temporary parking exemptions per year.
