The province is inviting consumers to be part of the 2019 Foodland Ontario Retailer Awards program, which recognizes outstanding retailer support for Ontario-grown foods.

For the first time in more than 30 years, consumers will be able to vote for a new Consumers' Choice award for best retail display of Ontario's fresh produce this summer .

"We want everyone to celebrate Ontario's fresh and seasonal bounty," said Ernie Hardeman, minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. "By inviting consumers to take part in Foodland Ontario's Retailer Awards program, we are helping raise awareness of local food and supporting our local grocery stores who take pride in creating displays promoting local food."

The annual Foodland Ontario Retailer Awards are the produce industry's premier competition for excellence in retail display and promotion in support of local Ontario foods.

Retailers enter seasonal display contests that run from mid-April to November. In 2018, more than 4,250 entries were submitted with almost 6,000 photos of compelling displays featuring fresh Ontario produce.
