Ice cream starts and ends school year in King (8 photos)

It was a sweet end to the school year at King Christian School, a privately funded school serving area children

King Christian School has a slightly different school calendar — and a slightly different way of celebrating the last day of school.

That last day was June 21, and the kids celebrated with Water Olympics and ice cream.

They were pretty impressed when the ice cream truck pulled into the school yard, and even more impressed when their teachers gave them each a choice of slushies or ice cream.

And once they finished their sticky treats, it was time for wet-sponge races, picnic challenges, water-cup balancing, and parachute games — a great way to have fun, get plenty of exercise, and wrap up the school year at the King Township school.

King Christian School is a privately funded, faith-based elementary school for kids in junior kindergarten to Grade 8, serving families in northern York Region and South Simcoe.

The school, which celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2018, also handles back-to-school a little differently with a New Year Party Back to School Social, planned for Aug. 28 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., which also features ice cream.
