Here’s what’s coming up at Newmarket council Monday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. in council chambers at the municipal offices, 395 Mulock Dr.
- The Newmarket volunteer chapter of the Terry Fox Run asks council to declare the week of Sept. 10 to 16 as Terry Fox Week. Council has supported the initiative in past years.
- Licensing fees may be on the rise for a wide variety of local businesses, as well as cost increases to services provided by the town, such as special occasion permits. Any new or increased fees will take effect January 2019.
Update:
The following items are coming up at the town's Committee of the Whole meeting on Sept. 17, not at tonight's council meeting, as previously reported. We regret the error.
- York University will present an update on the work at the new Markham Campus in York Region. The Town of Newmarket last year supported the $25-million funding agreement between York University and the Regional Municipality of York. The campus will provide about 4,000 students with access to more than 20 degree programs. There’s a chance for a partnership between York University and the Town of Newmarket to help meet local needs.
- A resident will share concerns about the safety of Queen Street, near the east end of Parkview Crescent. Council was asked to review the May 2014 In Road Safety Review Report conducted by IBI Group prior to Monday’s meeting.
