Here's help for Newmarket parents on teachers strike day Feb. 21

Newmarket students are among the more than 2 million kids across Ontario who will be out of school Friday, Feb. 21 when the four major teacher unions carry out a walkout if new contracts are not inked with the Ford government.

The coordinated teachers and education workers strike would see nearly 200,000 members on picket lines across Ontario from 72 school boards that would shut down about 5,000 publicly funded schools.

The Town of Newmarket offers the following child care option on strike day:

Kids' Place Camp

  • Friday, Feb. 21 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Recreation Youth Centre & Sk8 Park, 56 Charles St.
  • Games, arts and crafts, songs and more will keep students aged four to 12 active and engaged.
  • Space is limited, so you are encouraged to register early.
  • Cost: $40 for Newmarket residents; $70 for non-residents
