Need a warm hug?

The St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Newmarket prayer shawl group began in 2016 and welcomes anyone from the community who knits or crochets, or would like to learn.

The group’s mission is to create beautiful shawls and prayer cloths free of charge for anyone aged from newborn to 100.

More than 640 prayer shawls have been given out to date to anyone needing prayers and a ‘warm hug’. So far, there are 15-plus people participating on a weekly basis and the group are issuing a call for more.

Members have sent prayer shawls to disaster victims in Alberta and many places across Canada, patients in hospitals and nursing homes, and to those suffering loss or illness anywhere.

The St. Andrew’s Newmarket prayer shawl group meets Tuesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 484 Water St.

You are welcome to join the lively, supportive, and creative group. And if you know anyone who would appreciate a warm hug prayer shawl, call the church office at 905-895-5512, or just show up any Tuesday.
