Healthy Smiles Ontario offers free dental care to children

The Regional Municipality of York is pleased to offer Healthy Smiles Ontario, a free dental program for eligible children and youth under 17 years of age that covers regular check-ups, preventive care and treatment.

Children and youth are eligible for Healthy Smiles Ontario if they meet all of the following requirements: Healthy Smiles Ontario covers basic dental services to a dentist or registered dental hygienist including:
  • Regular checkups
  • Cleaning
  • Fillings
  • X-rays
  • Fluoride

The program was first launched in January 2016 and has helped approximately 8,400 children. Children and youth under the age of 17 are also automatically eligible and enrolled in the program when they or their family receive Ontario Works, Temporary Care Assistance, the Ontario Disability Support Program or Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities.

All other families experiencing financial hardship can apply online, by mail or by appointment at a York Region Public Health dental clinic.
