It will be easier to stay connected while travelling on GO Transit buses and trains with the Ontario government launching free Wi-Fi beginning next spring.

Metrolinx has signed an agreement with Icomera Canada Inc. to bring a reliable, high-quality, wireless internet connection to all 1,475 GO buses and trains beginning in spring 2020.

Icomera, a global leader in providing wireless internet connectivity for public transit, will provide the necessary infrastructure and equipment for the GO Transit fleet of 532 buses and 943 train coaches, according to a government of Ontario news release.

“Introducing Wi-Fi on GO trains and buses is great news for people in Newmarket and Aurora,” said Newmarket-Aurora MPP Christine Elliott. “This will make taking the GO a better, more productive experience for people in our community, whether they are commuting to work, school or to spend time with family and friends.”

GO Transit Wi-Fi will include internet access and free entertainment content through a modern, user-friendly portal.

The full rollout is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2020.
