Firefighters respond to alarm at Huron Heights school

While no fire occurred in the Saturday incident, crews remained on the scene until the smoke from an overheated motor was cleared

A fire alarm triggered by smoke from an overheated motor at Huron Heights Secondary School had Central York Fire Services responding late Saturday afternoon.

While there was no fire, CYFS Fire Chief Ian Laing said in an incident report that firefighters remained on the scene until the smoke was ventilated from the building on Huron Heights Drive, at Davis Drive.

A school caretaker was present when the alarm was activated and waited outside for CYFS crews to arrive, he added.

The blocked road and presence of the fire crews and an ambulance bus attracted attention in the neighbourhood, and nearby residents posted on the What's Up Newmarket Facebook page that they saw smoke pouring out of the front and rear doors of the school.
