Southlake Residential Care Village, a long-term care home in Newmarket, will receive $163,358 in one-time combined federal-provincial funding for air system improvements and upgrades.

The funding will be used to install two packaged rooftops units and five rooftop make-up air systems, said Newmarket-Aurora MPP Christine Elliott.

The project will include an ionization air purification system to improve air quality and humidification of the home, she added.

“Our government continues to prioritize the safety and well-being of long-term care residents, and we are proud to be investing in upgrades that will improve the quality of long-term care in Newmarket,” said Elliott. “The funding announced today will benefit many of our most vulnerable community members, providing them with the comfortable and safe living spaces they need and deserve.”

The funds are part of a $100-million investment to install heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems and make retrofits or repairs to fire sprinkler systems in 95 long-term care homes across the province.

The provincewide funding is part of a combined federal-provincial investment of up to $1.05 billion to build or renovate health and safety-related projects in long-term care, education and municipalities through the COVID-19 Resilience Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program.

In addition to helping communities build the necessary infrastructure to keep Ontario’s long-term care residents, families and staff comfortable and safe, this investment will create hundreds of local construction jobs, and support local businesses and suppliers, Elliott added.
