Business and the arts have joined forces again to present a unique event at Newmarket’s Old Town Hall combining music, artists’ displays, craft beverages and food.

The event, called Newmarket Artisans, will take place Saturday, Oct. 5, with doors at the Old Town Hall opening at 7 p.m.

Organized by the After Hours Big Band with support from Mayor John Taylor and the Newmarket Business Improvement Association, Newmarket Artisans is designed to reinforce downtown Newmarket as a hub for both culture and business services. It will be the second event of its kind, following the initial sold-out show of Sept. 29, 2018.

This year a new component is being added — free chili. Three restaurants from downtown Newmarket will participate in a friendly competition to provide the best chili for event patrons.

“We support the Newmarket Artisans concept as a way to bring the community together and celebrate Newmarket’s outstanding quality of life,” says Tom Hempen, president of the Newmarket BIA and owner of Hempen Jewellers on Main Street.

In addition to the three-set concert by the After Hours band, attendees will see displays by artists Brigitte Granton and Josephine Catalano Macpherson, along with woodworking artisan Keith Severs.

Tickets at $22 are available through After Hours band members and www.afterhoursbigband.ca.  Tickets can also be purchased on a cash-only basis at coffee shop A Hui Hou, 208 Main St. South in Newmarket.
