Toronto-born, Italian-Canadian, 19-year old R & B singer-songwriter Locklyn is headlining The Cancer Society Relay For Life Friday, June 21 at Pickering College.

Locklyn's debut album, REL8TE, released March 6, features songs about her journey through the music industry, as well as her struggle with losing her father to addiction.

Locklyn has been creating buzz with her singles, Sides and Warriors on national radio stations. Her musical style is compared to the soulfulness of Beyonce, pop stylings of Chris Brown and the fullness of Alicia Keys.

The album produced by Trust Chen Pow (Cool to be Kind, nominated for a 2019 Juno Award, BestChildren’s Album, Everytime by Deesha, nominated for a 2007 Juno Awards R&B/Soul Recording of the Year and Juicy by Lorraine Lawson (from CTV’s The Launch)). The album also features background vocals from renowned vocal coach Lorraine Lawson (CTV’s The Launch).

“I am excited to share my music. When I lost my father, I felt like it was something that I wasn’t going to get through”, says Locklyn “But writing and recording the songs was therapeutic and it made me stronger and helped me to find myself.”

The first single, I Don’t Wanna, launched April 2018 with success and charted at number 23 on the Canadian iTunes. Her follow-up singles, Sides and Warrior, are currently on rotation across Canada and available on iTunes and music streaming platforms, including Spotify, Tidal, Amazon and Google.

The album, lyrics written by Locklyn, is about the struggle and pain of she experienced losing her father at the age of 15. There are also a few songs, 4Bidden, 6ame, D3vil and Warrior are about Locklyn’s experience, so far, in the music industry, which she navigated starting at the age of 12. One of her first singles, Sides, takes a harsh look at the reality of the gun violence that has been plaguing many cities.

Locklyn, who has more than 21,000 Instagram followers, has had a passion for music her entire life; at the age of six, she started belting out tunes on coffee tables, and then at 12, began performing at Toronto venues, including The Rivoli and the Al Green Theatre.
