Main Street in Newmarket will be the backdrop of a commercial that’s being filmed in the area on Sunday.

The production is expected to take place from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. in the downtown area and around Riverwalk Commons.

There are a number of anticipated disruptions to residents during the one-day filming, but the town said it has worked with the production company to minimize these.

Main Street will be closed from Water Street to Botsford Street for one to two minutes at a time intermittently throughout the day. York Regional Police will be there to manage traffic during the filming. One or two parking spaces on Main Street will also be used throughout the production.

Parking will be limited in P3, the lot behind the Newmarket Community Centre and Lions Hall, as production vehicles will be parked there from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Cedar Street, which is also behind the community centre, will be used in the filming but will remain open.

The water feature at Riverwalk Commons will be open with regular hours, but at 6:30 p.m. the jets will be turned off to accommodate the filming.

The final change is residents may see a winterized version of Main Street due to the production.

The production has benefits for the town as well, the filming notice said. The production will bring in revenue to the town through permits and fees. The town has also negotiated a $10,000 contribution to the Newmarket BIA to offset the impacts to businesses in the area.

Anyone with questions, concerns or feedback can reach out to the town at [email protected]. For municipal emergencies or urgent film inquiries after hours, call 905-895-5193 and press 3.
