Character Community podcast celebrates inspiring residents from across York Region

First episode of the podcast features Citizen of Character Jenova Lin who shared her story to raise awareness of Tourette Syndrome

A new podcast from Character Community is shining the spotlight on local York Region residents and inspiring stories.

The first episode of the podcast, which is out now on various streaming services, features Jenova Lin who was one of the organization’s Citizens of Character for 2021.

The young Markham resident was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome in 2018 and after being bullied for being different, she began to share her story and fight for inclusiveness by promoting anti-bullying events and raising funds and awareness for Tourette Canada.

“She demonstrated great courage and strength and began telling her story at schools and events across the community. During this podcast, we learn more about Jenova's inspiring story and how she was able to change a negative situation into a positive one,” the Character Community said in a news release.

The podcast, which will be released twice monthly, is funded by an Ontario Trillium Foundation grant.

“I cannot begin to describe the impact this Ontario Trillium Foundation grant will have on our organization and our community. This grant allows our organization to provide children and youth across York Region with the character development skills and community support required to overcome barriers, make positive life decisions and become community leaders,” said Susanne Cappuccitti, executive director of Character Community York Region.

A video version of the podcast will also be posted on the organization’s YouTube Channel, where the first episode is already available.
