Learn. Achieve. Lead. These are the pillars of GEN NEXT.

The Canadian Federation of University Women Aurora/Newmarket is launching a new program geared toward women who are Grade 12 graduates, aged 18 to 30 years.

“We are looking to educate, inspire, mentor, and foster community through innovative and creative programs that are important to young women,” says Grace Cantarutti, chair of GEN NEXT.

The virtual launch of GEN NEXT is Monday, June 28 at 7 p.m. via Zoom with guest speaker, Leah Taylor-Roy. As a member of CFUW Aurora/Newmarket and a CFUW scholarship winner herself, Leah has first-hand knowledge of the impact that CFUW has on the future of young women.

To register for this event, please contact Grace Cantarutti at [email protected].

The idea for this project was inspired last fall by one of the 2020 CFUW scholarship winners who asked about keeping in touch with the Aurora/Newmarket club.

A committee was formed to explore the possibility of providing resources and mentorship to support young women as they complete their post-secondary education, apprenticeship programs and enter the workforce.

The vision of GEN NEXT is to empower women’s lives through friendship, education, outreach and advocacy, a vision that closely aligns with CFUW’s purpose.

The GEN NEXT members will have the chance to participate in any of the club’s committees/events/interest groups, as well as new groups specific to their needs and interests.

“If you talk to young people they care about human rights, they care about climate change, they care about a just society and an inclusive society. We invite young women to use their influence to empower others and impact society," says Janet Thacker, membership chair of CFUW Aurora/Newmarket. “We want them to be part of a vibrant conversation about change.”

A three-part speaker series starts in September with a focus on wellness and self-care, managing finances and on successful job hunting.
