Central York Fire Services evacuates Newmarket courthouse

Firefighters determined a malfunctioning alarm was to blame

Central York Fire Services evacuated the Newmarket Courthouse about 10:30 a.m. this morning after an alarm went off.

A York Regional Police officer on the scene said a small amount of smoke was reported and everyone inside the 50 Eagle St. W. courthouse was evacuated as a precaution.

Police reported at 11:09 a.m. that the cause of the smoke is a malfunctioning alarm.

Three Central York fire trucks and firefighters were dispatched to the scene, but no smoke was visible outside the building.

There have been no injuries reported.

The courthouse occupants were all moved outside to the parking lot area while the investigation took place.
