Firefighters forced their way into the garage of a Newmarket house early on Thanksgiving Sunday to extinguish a fire and rescue the homeowners.

Central York Fire Services dispatched four fire trucks to the 1:30 a.m. blaze on Ballard Crescent in the Yonge Street and Savage Road area after receiving a report of heavy smoke coming from the garage of the two-storey home on Oct. 13, according to the incident report.

Firefighters "performed forcible entry to extinguish the fire and perform search-and-rescue inside the home," the report said.

No injuries occurred and firefighters assisted all the occupants outside to safety.
