Boy injured in fall through rooftop skylight on Main Street Newmarket (9 photos)

Another boy, who was also on the roof, was rescued uninjured

UPDATE, July 23: York Regional Police do not have an update on the boy's condition but believe he is still in hospital, Cst. Laura Nicolle said. The YRP investigation into this incident is closed and no charges are being laid.

A boy has been transported to the hospital after falling through a glass skylight in downtown Newmarket this afternoon.

Main Street was closed this afternoon as Central York Fire Services, York Region Paramedic Services and York Regional Police emergency responders undertook a rescue after two boys climbed onto the roof of a building at about 2:30 p.m. July 22.

Two boys were on the roof of 205 Main when one fell through a skylight into the second floor of the building, according to witness Ryan Frame.

Details were not available regarding the condition of the injured boy.

Firefighters initially got onto the roof using an extension ladder and waited with the uninjured boy for the ladder truck to arrive. The injured boy was evacuated by paramedics through the building.

The upper second floor of the building appears to be under renovation at this time.

According to York Regional Police Const. Laura Nicolle, the children are believed to be aged about 12.

It is too early to say if there will be an investigation or any charges laid in relation to this event, Nicolle said.

While there doesn't appear to be any direct access to the roof of 205 Main from the back of the building, the roof of neighbouring 203 Main can be
accessed from the fire escape in the back.

Two bicycles were visible by the fire escape at 203 Main following the incident.
