Bereaved Families offers 'journey through grief' support sessions

For those who are grieving the loss of a loved one, the free sessions include how to cope with special occasions and practical day-to-day strategies

Bereaved Families of York Region is offering a series of support sessions to residents on a 'journey through grief' beginning next month.

The free sessions are offered throughout February and March in Newmarket to adults 18 years of age and older who are grieving the death of a loved one.

The Journey Through Grief series includes:

  • Special Occasions, How to Cope, Tuesday, Feb. 12, 7 to 9 p.m.
  • How Grief Impacts You, Tuesday, Feb. 19, 7 to 9 p.m.
  • How to Work Through Your Grief, Tuesday, Feb. 26, 7 to 9 p.m.
  • Taking Care of Yourself and Practical Day-to-Day Strategies, Tuesday, March 5, 7 to 9 p.m.
  • How to Get the Support You Need, Tuesday, March 12, 7 to 9 p.m.
  • Honouring and Remembering Our Loved Ones, Tuesday, March 19, 7 to 9 p.m.

You may choose to come to one or more or all sessions listed, and friends and family are welcome to accompany you. An initial one-on-one meeting beforehand is not required before attending.

Open discussion daytime sessions are also offered Monday, Feb. 18 from 1 to 3 p.m. and Friday, March 22 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Each session is facilitated by two trained volunteer facilitators. 

All the sessions are held at Bereaved Families of Ontario - York Region, 17070 Yonge St., Suite 203, in Newmarket.

Please call to reserve a spot and arrive on time for all sessions. Previous participants are welcome to attend again.

Bereaved Families of Ontario-York Region is a non-profit organization providing bereavement support services by trained volunteers and staff to individuals and families grieving the death of a loved one. Programs and services are offered at no cost.
