COVID-19 vaccine eligibility for a first dose is expanding to anyone living or working in York Region aged 18 and older tomorrow.
Bookings for appointments — which are required to receive a vaccine — open Tuesday, May 18 at 8:30 a.m. for clinics across the region, following the province's announcement earlier today that rollout to ages 18+ would be accelerated from May 24, according to regional spokesperson Patrick Casey.
Eligibility is also expanding to include high-risk health-care workers eligible to receive their second doses at a shorter interval, he added.
York Region's vaccine rollout is now aligned with phase two of the Government of Ontario’s COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Plan.
Approximately 51,000 appointments for vaccines will be available and can be booked at york.ca/COVID19Vaccine, Casey said.
About 600,000 York Region residents have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, which is more than 61 per cent of the adult population.
COVID-19 vaccines are now available to the following:
- UPDATED: All adults (18+) living or working in York Region (born in 2003 or earlier);
- Individuals 16+ who are health-care workers or cannot work from home (Group 1 and 2);
- Individuals 16+ with highest, high and at-risk risk health conditions, including pregnant individuals.
York Region residents age 18+ can also book a vaccination appointment at any participating pharmacy in the province.
York Region is also offering a pop-up clinic for individuals living in L3S and L6G postal codes in Markham from May 17 to 21 at the Islamic Society of Markham – Markham Masjid, 2900 Denison St., http://l3svaccinates.com
