Advance voting begins today in Newmarket's municipal election

It's on, Newmarket. Beginning today at 10 a.m., you can cast your electronic ballot, either over the internet or by phone.

Advance voting in the Oct. 22 municipal election kicked off at 10 a.m. today, and all candidates and scrutineers were invited to witness the ‘zero tally’ display of the electronic ballot box. This exercise provides proof that candidates vying for mayor, regional councillor and deputy mayor, wards, and school board trustee positions all begin with zero votes.

The Town’s election board, along with election technology provider, Scytl, were on hand to explain how votes are recorded for Newmarket’s first digital municipal election.

Residents can vote over the Internet or by telephone from now until 8 p.m. Oct. 22, provided they are registered on the Municipal Voters’ List. Voters who are registered should have received a letter from the Town, containing their own unique personal identification number (PIN) and detailed instructions on how to cast their electronic ballot.

If you haven’t received this letter or haven’t yet registered to vote, you have up until official voting day Oct. 22 to do so. Visit the Town election’s website to check if you’re on the voters’ list and to register here
