95% of York board's recent PSW graduates land jobs

Program provides accreditation immediately after graduation and students can begin working right away. Registration for the winter session begins Nov. 12.

On Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018, another 38 students graduated from the YRDSB Personal Support Worker program. Classes concluded only a few weeks ago and 95 per cent of the graduates are already employed working at hospitals, nursing homes and in other health care settings.

“We are really proud of our graduates. They worked hard and I want to congratulate them on their success and for finding work that supports our communities,” said Annette Oliver, Vice-Principal of Continuing Education.

The personal support worker program provides accreditation immediately after graduation and students can begin working right away.

The YRDSB PSW program consists of 810 hours of theory and on-the-job training including supervised placements in long-term care facilities and community organizations.

The full-time program can be completed within eight months and the part-time program can be completed within approximately 12 months.

The winter session begins on Jan. 31, 2019. Registration begins on Nov. 12, 2018.
