Thousands of customers affected by 'large outage' in Newmarket

Thousands of  customers are without power in Newmarket Sunday evening. 

Newmarket-Tay Power tweeted at 7:44 p.m. Nov. 27 that a "large outage" was reported. It said line crews were dispatched to investigate. 

 

 

According to the company's outage dashboard, there are three outages in Newmarket. All are unplanned and expected to last longer than two hours. It said a total of 5,500 customers are affected. 

In community Facebook groups residents reported hearing a loud bang and then losing power. 

"What is going on with the power...another loud bang and power is out at Mulock and Bayview," one person said. 

Power is out in the Mulock Drive area by Sandford Street and Bayview Avenue, Yonge Street and Eagle Street, and in the downtown Fairy Lake area, according to residents on Facebook.
