Twenty-four non-profit organizations in York Region are sharing more than $2.5 million in capital grant funding through the Ontario Trillium Foundation to help deliver community support programs.

In Newmarket, the Ontario Water Centre is receiving $150,000 that will help them expand landscaped, lighted and gravelled parking lot to provide a publicly accessible waterfront recreational site for community events, according to Dawn Gallagher Murphy, MPP for Newmarket-Aurora, in a news release.

The Newmarket Soccer Club is receiving $150,000 for renovations and repairs to its facility, including new doors, windows, flooring and siding, as well as updating drainage and security. The Rose of Sharon is receiving $17,200 toward the purchase of a refrigerator and appliances for their free food security project that supports young mothers.

“I am proud of our government’s initiative to invest in not-for-profit organizations in our communities,” Gallagher Murphy said. “By supporting this grant program, the government is ensuring that our residents have safe and ready to access to the facilities, programs, activities, and services that make Newmarket-Aurora a great place to live and have fun.”

“Non-profit organizations are vital to the fabric of communities across York-Simcoe,” said MPP Caroline Mulroney. “Our government continues to support these organizations, including through the Ontario Trillium Foundation capital grant, which helps improve infrastructure and ensure these critical programs can continue to deliver community supports to local residents.”

“It is so important that we continue to invest and support youth and adults with developmental and intellectual disability,” said Stephen Lecce, MPP for King-Vaughan, who announced that Ontario will provide $250,000 to Schwartz Reisman Centre and the Reena Foundation to upgrade infrastructure and add new exercise equipment so individuals with physical and health challenges can improve their physical, social, and emotional well-being.

“We support our non-profits, because they support us,” said MPP Laura Smith, Thornhill. “I know that these funds are going to organizations that are doing so much good for the community of Thornhill, such as DANI – who will be using these funds to upgrade their facilities to better serve and accommodate our neuro-diverse community, and Reena, which provides important and much needed housing for adults with disabilities. I am also very pleased to see funds going to the Slovenian Home Association, to help make the facility safe and functional to better serve their community.”

MPP Billy Pang, Markham-Unionville, announced funding for 360°kids and Sanatan Mandir Cultural Centre upgrade their facilities.

The funding is a part of an Ontario government investment of more than $37 million in capital grant funding to help 417 non-profit organizations across the province.

“Safe, accessible and well-equipped infrastructure is essential for healthy, vibrant communities. Having appropriate spaces and equipment ensures that non-profit organizations can deliver high-quality programming to the communities they serve,” said Katharine Bambrick, CEO, Ontario Trillium Foundation. “These capital projects are vital and are expected to enhance over 4.5 million square feet of community spaces for Ontarians.”
