LETTER: Others should follow Newmarket mayor, stand up to Ford

'I just wish mayors of other municipalities would speak their mind and oppose some of Ford's doings, like the Bradford Bypass or Highway 413 and dismantling our Greenbelt,' letter writer says

Re: Letter to the editor, Good on you, mayor, for standing up to Doug Ford, March 28; and Premier calls out Newmarket mayor for not supporting housing bill, March 24.

Thank you for adding this great letter to NewmarketToday regarding Mayor John Taylor challenging Premier Doug Ford. I often wonder how Ford can do some of the things he does. OK, he has premier powers, that can't be controlled, but why do others have to follow him?

Engineers, urban planners, developers, councillors, mayors, other politicians, etc. follow his orders or vote to pass his bills but no one challenges his integrity or ethics in conducting his activities or even follows their own ethics. All these disciplines need to follow moral principals set up by their professional teachings and organizations.

I have come across professionals who "have to" go with the flow and won't challenge Ford or their superiors who are Ford puppets, or even report the shortcomings of some of his rash, unprofessional and unscientific decision-making in this decade of sustainability, human health impacts and the climate crisis.

Kudos, Mayor Taylor! At least you do your homework, know and stand up for your municipality in York Region. You won't be bullied by Ford to do as he says, even if he is dumbfounded about the municipality's need for a sewage treatment facility to handle the population growth.

I just wish mayors of other municipalities would speak their mind and oppose some of Ford's doings, like the Bradford Bypass or Highway 413 and dismantling our Greenbelt, to name a few.
