Since 1984, Skills Upgrading Centre, Literacy Council York-Simcoe has been providing free customized skills upgrading programs for adults. We are a registered non-profit charitable organization supported by the Ministry of Labour, Training, and Skills Development. The Regional Municipality of York, United Way Greater Toronto, and local charitable gaming. We are active in fundraising activities and also gratefully accept donations from corporations, foundations and individuals.

Today, with a small staff and more than 25 dedicated volunteers, Skills Upgrading Centre – LCYS continues to improve lives in York Region and Bradford West Gwillimbury through education, participation, and empowerment. 

We collaborate with local community and employment services to ensure that our students gain the skills necessary for a successful future.

The Skills Upgrading Centre can help you:

  • Prepare for your GED or post secondary education 
  • Improve, reading, writing and math
  • Learn how to use a computer and learn MS Office. 
  • Gain important skills for employment
  • Make new community connections

We’re by your side every step of your learning journey. Improve your skills with a tutor, in a small classes,  or with our computer-assisted learning and self-paced programs.
