Seniors aged 80 and over who live in Newmarket and across York Region can begin booking their appointments for COVID-19 vaccines as of Monday, March 1 at 8 a.m.

York Region residents born in 1941 or earlier can book an appointment at one of three vaccination centres by clicking on this link: york.ca/COVID19Vaccine

You will be given options for scheduling your appointment as soon as you begin the booking process.

Appointments must be booked online, and residents requiring assistance are encouraged to seek out a caregiver, family member or friend who can assist.

The three vaccination centres are:

  • Ray Twinney Recreation Complex on Eagle Street in Newmarket, operated by Southlake Regional Health Centre;
  • Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital in Vaughan, operated by Mackenzie Health;
  • Cornell Community Centre in Markham, operated by Eastern York Region North Durham (EYRND) Ontario Health Team.

Vaccinations may start as early as Monday, however, appointment availability is based on limited vaccine supply.

Vaccines will be available by appointment only — walk-ins will be turned away — and only for York Region residents, said York Region spokesperson Patrick Casey.

"As more vaccines become available, we expect to increase the number of our clinics," he said.

Clinic dates are being finalized depending on availability and location, he added.

"Understandably, a large volume of interest is expected for vaccines for this priority group," Casey said. "York Region urges residents to remain patient over the next couple of days as we finalize booking and appointment details."

Retired Gen. Rick Hillier, chair of the provincial COVID-19 vaccine distribution task force, has approved the earlier rollout of the vaccine in York Region for residents aged 80 over, while other regions are waiting until March 15, medical officer of health Dr. Karim Kurji told regional council yesterday.

A stock of 18,000 to 20,000 doses is currently available, he said, with additional deliveries of the Pfizer vaccine confirmed for the weeks ahead.
