VIDEO: Southlake emergency department remains open, safe

The Newmarket hospital has released a video encouraging residents needing care to come to the hospital, despite the COVID-19 pandemic

Southlake Regional Health Centre wants the community to know that its emergency department remains open and is a safe place to receive care during the COVID-19 pandemic.

"While the COVID-19 pandemic has changed a lot of things in all of our daily lives, there's one thing that hasn't changed. The emergency department at Southlake remains a safe place for you to go for high-quality care when you need it," Dr. Steven Beatty, chief of staff at Southlake, says in a video released by the Newmarket hospital.

The Southlake video highlights the new procedures in place for safety during the pandemic, including screening, wearing masks, ramped up cleaning and other infection control measures.

Chief of emergency Dr. Gaurav Puri highlights what residents seeking care can expect both in the emergency department, as well as at the COVID-19 assessment centre.

"It’s important to be honest and let us know if you have been in contact with anyone that has COVID-19 or is experiencing symptoms. We are here for you, and no one will ever be denied care," Puri says.

"If you need our services, please come," Beatty adds.
