Not in Newmarket yet, but more pharmacies approved for COVID-19 testing

People wanting a test must have no symptoms and meet eligibility criteria
COVID-19 Testing New 05212020

The provincial government has authorized several more pharmacies in York Region to provide COVID-19 tests for people who do not have symptoms and meet the other eligibility criteria.

According to the Ministry of Health, the groups eligible to be tested at pharmacies include:

  • residents, workers or visitors of long-term care homes;
  • residents or workers in homeless shelters or other congregate settings;
  • international students who have passed their 14-day quarantine period;
  • farm workers;
  • Indigenous community members.

These criteria are subject to change, so you can call your health-care provider to check if you are eligible. If you think you have been exposed to COVID-19 but don't meet the criteria, speak with your health-care provider.

Of the 10 York Region pharmacies designated as testing locations, none are located in Newmarket, however nearby locations are offered in Stouffville and Richmond Hill.

Initially, when the province announced testing would be available in pharmacies, there was only one in York Region, in Markham.
