Southlake Village resident dies in COVID-19 outbreak

The 95-year-old woman is the first COVID-19 fatality at the Newmarket long-term care facility on Grace Street

A 95-year-old resident of Southlake Residential Care Village has died with COVID-19 in the fourth outbreak at the Newmarket long-term care centre.

The woman, who was asymptomatic, passed away Sunday, March 13 at the facility on Grace Street with a case of the virus acquired in the outbreak declared seven days ago.

Two residents of a total of 224 and nine health-care workers of 200 have tested positive to date.

This is the first COVID-19 related fatality at Southlake Village during the pandemic.

The death is the 41st for Newmarket, and the fourth this month.
