As it prepares for the onslaught of travellers returning from March break, Ontario is reporting 59 additional COVID-19 cases, with five in York Region, bringing its total to 377 this morning, March 21.

The York cases appear to have been previously reported by York Region public health: a baby girl in Aurora under the age of one, a travel-related case; a woman in her 50s in East Gwillimbury who travelled to Austria and Germany; a woman in her 40s in Vaughan; a woman in her 40s in Stouffville; and a woman in her 70s in Markham, now indicating close contact transmission. Where details are provided, the individuals are in self isolation.

The province has been lagging behind in its reporting, according to a Region of York spokesperson Patrick Casey, who confirmed the regional reporting is accurate.

Last night, York Region reported a woman in her 30s in Vaughan as its first community-acquired COVID-19 case, in which the source of transmission in unknown.

That case, the region's 35th confirmed, has been removed from its dedicated website this morning, without explanation.

Again today, no details regarding gender, age, location, cause of transmission and status are being provided for the majority of the confirmed cases on the province's dedicated website.

As for the additional confirmed cases with details reported in Ontario today, they are travel related and close contact in Simcoe Muskoka, Toronto, Peel, Durham, Hastings Prince Edward, and Ottawa.

To date in Ontario, 23,383 individuals have been tested for coronavirus, with the number waiting for results leaping to 7,239, and 15,768 have tested negative. Five of the cases have been resolved and two patients are deceased.

Chief Public Health Officer of Canada Dr. Theresa Tam said the daily confirmed cases count reflects testing done days ago, and those people would have spent several days with the virus before developing symptoms.
