The Nokiidaa Trail in East Gwillimbury has re-opened.

"Wtih the beautiful weather coming this weekend, we're extremely pleased that we could work with our partners at the LSRCA, Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority, to reopen the trails," said East Gwillimbury Mayor Virginia Hackson in a video.

"Access to green space and trails is extremely important for physical fitness, I know it, and mental health, too."

Town staff, as well as the mayor herself, will be out on the trails this weekend to remind trail users to follow physical distancing guidelines, she added.

The trail parking lots on Mount Albert Road and Green Lane have also reopened.

The town's outdoor recreational amenities, including sports fields, playgrounds, basketball courts, skate and bike parks, picnic areas, park shelters and community gardens, remain closed, according to the town's website.

The Nokiidaa Trail in East Gwillimbury was closed temporarily March 31 to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
