NEWS RELEASE
THE TOWN OF NEWMARKET
**************************
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town of Newmarket is planning alternative at-home and in-person recreation programming in place of full-day summer camps for the 2020 season. Today, the Town has launched a 40 Days of Summer Camper Kit, offering parents a ready-to-go activity each day of summer to help keep kids busy within the safety of their homes.

Each camper kit includes 40 activities, supplies and directions to entertain and educate children’s curious minds with a range of self-directed and hands-on learning experiences. Geared toward school-aged children (four to 12 years old), each kit provides 10 activities per program area:

  • Sports and active
  • Arts and crafts
  • Games and adventures
  • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

Parents can order kits at play.newmarket.ca using code 129768. Camper kits cost $75 each and are designed for one camper. Kits will be available in the coming weeks for curbside pick up at the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex (100 Eagle St. West) or delivery within Newmarket. Camper kits are available while quantities last.

More recreation programs coming soon:
In addition to the 40 Days of Summer Camper Kits that families can enjoy on their own time at home, the Town will be offering small group, short programs. These programs are designed to allow for physical distancing and will be limited to nine participants and an instructor. Kids on the Move – Park Pop Up Program is one option on the horizon, which will be offered a few daytimes each week on a drop-in basis. Parents will be required to stay onsite to support their children’s hands-on needs (e.g. washrooms, first aid requirements) while participating children get the chance to engage and socialize in a safe and friendly atmosphere.

Parents are encouraged to sign up for the town’s Recreation E-Newsletter or bookmark Newmarket.ca/recreation to receive more information when it is available.
