Southlake Regional Health Centre CEO Arden Krystal is in isolation at home after testing positive for COVID-19, a spokesperson for the Newmarket hospital says.

While Krystal regularly spends time with Southlake's frontline teams and visits clinical units, including those with patients being treated for COVID-19, contact tracing has not conclusively determined where or when the transmission occurred, Kathryn Perrier, manager of corporate communications, said in an email.

Krystal, who is currently experiencing mild flu-like symptoms, has been carefully following all infection prevention and public health measures, Perrier said.

"Our CEO has been following all public health guidelines in the community, has not travelled, and has not had any close contact with anyone outside of her household. She has been adhering to Southlake’s PPE protocols while at work," Perrier said.

"This is a reminder that the virus can strike anyone and we are encouraging everyone to continue to follow public health guidelines as this gives you the greatest chance of staying virus-free."
