It appears the weather will cooperate Saturday, May 2 for a planned classic car parade in support of Southlake Regional Health Centre and its essential frontline health workers in Newmarket and surrounding areas.

The Highway 11 Cruisers Car Club will hold a classic and custom car, truck, and bike parade is expected to begin just after 11 a.m. tomorrow, with staging to take place at the Newmarket GO station parking lot on the north side of the Tannery Mall, at 465 Davis Dr.

The parade route is as follows: The vehicles will travel east on Davis Drive to Roxborough Road, then right on Roxborough to Queen Street, right on Queen to Davis and, lastly, right on Davis to pass by the hospital one last time before dispersing.

Participants have been instructed to abide by strict physical distancing guidelines, which includes parking in a space that leaves an empty space between vehicles and staying inside the vehicles.

The Highway 11 Cruisers started in summer 2010 by a small group of like-minded individuals who have grown to be more like family than a great group of friends. Its purpose is to bring people together for a good time and a good cause.

The club has now grown to a membership of more than 175 dedicated members and continues to grow weekly.

The not-for-profit group raises funds for numerous local charities by hosting car shows and a weekly cruise night in Newmarket on Tuesday nights, usually from the last Tuesday of April until the last Tuesday of October.

Since its founding, more than $125,000 has been raised by dedicated members. All donations go directly to the causes, and sponsors cover any operating costs.

One of the many things that sets the club apart is that it charges no membership fees or dues. The only ask of its membership is that they donate their time when possible throughout the year to help organize and run the club’s various events.

A rain date is set for Sunday, May 3 just after 11 a.m., but the forecast for tomorrow is an encouraging partly sunny with a high of 18C.
