As of Monday, March 8, an additional 3,000 vaccine appointments are available to York Region residents aged 80 and older.

Residents born in 1941 and earlier can book appointments online beginning Monday at 8:30 a.m. at york.ca/covid19Vaccine.

The limited number of appointments will be for vaccinations at York Region Public Health clinics on Tuesday, March 9, Wednesday, March 10 and Thursday, March 11 from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Richmond Green Sports Centre in Richmond Hill and Georgina Ice Palace, according to York Region spokesperson Patrick Casey.

"There are very limited number of appointments available and we expect appointments will be booked extremely quickly," Casey said.

The process for booking appointments requires two steps: you must create an account before selecting an available appointment.

Residents age 80+ who are not comfortable booking online are encouraged to ask a caregiver, family member or friend to book the appointment on their behalf.

Phone support for York Region Public Health clinics is available through the Access York contact centre at 1-877-464-9675.

Residents may be required to wait outside for a short period of time before their appointment, so it is important to properly prepare for your COVID-19 vaccine before visiting the clinic, Casey advises.

Walk-in appointments are not available — you will be turned away if you do not have an appointment, he added.

More than 18,100 York Region residents aged 80 and older were vaccinated against COVID-19 during the first week of York Region's early phase one rollout.

As of March 6, a total of 23,081 vaccines have been administered to York Region residents aged 80 and older have — or 35.3 per cent of eligible residents.
