Newmarket votes for no change on council

15,221 people voted, dropping to a new low in turnout compared to recent elections with 24.8% of eligible voters casting a ballot

The faces around the Town of Newmarket council table remain unchanged for the next term. Here are the unofficial results of the Newmarket municipal elections, as of about 9:15 p.m. tonight, Oct. 24. 

In total, 15,221 people voted, dropping to a new low in turnout compared to recent elections with 24.8 per cent of eligible voters casting a ballot. 

Prior to the polls closing, as of 6 p.m., 13,530 residents had cast a ballot, representing 22.1 per cent of eligible voters. The majority of votes, 98.5 per cent, were made online.

Voter turnout in Newmarket’s 2018 election was 35 per cent, dropping from 37 per cent turnout for the 2014 election. In the 2018 election, 17,871 people voted online.
