20240405-aurora-article6

Spring is in full swing, and with it comes Aurora’s yard waste pickup. Starting this week, residents can place their yard waste to the curb by 7 a.m. for pickup.

Yard waste pickup occurs every second week from the week of April 9 to the week of December 6. Residents are encouraged to place weeds, plant trimmings, leaves, pumpkins, straw, and cornstalks in paper yard bags or any rigid open-top container with sturdy handles. These items will be collected during the scheduled pickups.

When bundling branches, residents are asked to follow these guidelines.

• Individual branches must not exceed 10 cm (4") in diameter.

• Bundles must be securely tied with twine.

• Bundles must weigh no more than 22 kg (50 lbs) and must not exceed 1.2 m (4 ft) in length.

While many yard waste items are accepted, there are several items not included in Aurora's Yard Waste program. These items include kitchen scraps, grass clippings, rocks, dirt, sod, tree stumps, flowerpots/trays, treated wood, and animal droppings.
