Two people face drug-related charges and $63,500 worth of magic mushrooms (psilocybin) and dimethyltryptamine (DMT) were seized from an illegal retail store in Richmond Hill.
Complaints from the community prompted York Regional Police to begin an investigation last March into the FunGuyz Magic Mushrooms store at Yonge and Centre street, a news release said.
The production, sale and possession of magic mushrooms and DMT, also a psychedelic drug, are illegal in Canada. There are no legal stores in Ontario permitted to sell these controlled substances, police said.
In April, three separate search warrants were executed, multiple charges laid and controlled substances seized, police said.
"York Regional Police guns, gangs and drug enforcement unit investigators have made a significant impact in the fight against illegal magic mushroom stores operating within our community," police said.
Shaniece Peters, 26, of Toronto and Michal Goldenberg, 23, of Vaughan are charged with trafficking in a controlled substance and possession for the purposes of trafficking, police said.

• 2,406 grams of magic mushrooms
• 4,900 magic mushroom capsules
• 379 magic mushroom edibles
• 20 DMT vapes
• 2,620 magic mushroom pills
• $4,960 in Canadian currency
York Regional Police is reminding the community that the sale (trafficking) of magic mushrooms and DMT is a criminal offence; possession of these substances is illegal and anyone who has purchased substances from this business can face criminal charges. As well, magic mushrooms and DMT sold from this business are not subject to government quality control measures.
