3 brothers arrested, firearms, drugs seized in Newmarket, Richmond Hill

Police have seized a large quantity of firearms and drugs.

Three brothers from Newmarket and Richmond Hill face a slew of charges in an investigation that began with an impaired driving traffic stop in Newmarket on Friday and led to a discovery of multiple firearms and drugs.

An off-duty York Regional Police officer reported a possible impaired driver April 19, and officers arrested a man at Fernbank Road and Mulock Drive in Newmarket, according to a news release.

The driver was charged with impaired operation by drug and possession of a controlled substance after a small amount of what is believed to be cocaine was located, police said. After further investigation, police conducted a search warrant at two locations, one in Newmarket and one in Richmond Hill.

Police seized 12 long guns, four handguns, and two extended magazines, many of which were loaded and stored improperly, and a large quantity of suspected drugs, including cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine, cannabis, prescription medication and Xanax worth $60,000, police said.

Marcus Borowski, 25, of Newmarket is charged with: 

  • Impaired operation by drug 
  • Possession of a restricted firearm 
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm x2
  • Careless storage of a firearm x5
  • Careless storage of a firearm x6 
  • Possession of firearm knowing its unauthorized x2
  • Possession of Prohibited ammunition
  • Possession of weapon of dangerous purpose
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm with ammunition
  • Possession of cocaine 
  • Possession of fentanyl 
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine 
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – xanax
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – oxycodone 
  • Possess cannabis for the purpose of distribution.

Matthew Borowski, 23, of Richmond Hill is charged with:

  • Careless storage of a firearm
  • Possession of a prohibited device x2.

Joshua Borowski, 27, of Richmond Hill is charged with:

  • Careless Storage of a firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm.
