Friday, May 3

Pine Tree Potters' Guild Spring 2024 Pottery Show and Sale, to May 5: More than 2,000 unique pieces of both functional and decorative porcelain, stoneware, and Raku pottery are on sale. Guild members are available during sale hours to answer your questions. At Newmarket Old Town Hall Thursday, May 2 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday, May 3 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday, May 4 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, May 5 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Duende Kings - A Tribute to the Gipsy Kings: Duende Kings bring the passion and emotion of the Gipsy Kings alive in this tribute to the band, recreating their repertoire along with hits of ABBA, The Eagles, Van Morrison, and more, in flamenco-style at the Newmarket Old Town Hall at 7:30 p.m. Tickets $35. Duende Kings are a six-person collective of the GTA’s top musicians: Juneyt (guitar and vocals), Leo Orlov (guitar and vocals), Adam Kurgatnikov (bass), Aaron Seunarine (percussion), Aaron Spink (drums), and David Skolnick (accordion, guitar, piano, and vocals).

Newmarket Farmers' Market: It's opening day for the 25th season of the Newmarket Farmer's Market at Riverwalk Commons, on Doug Duncan Dr., where you can connect with local farmers, enjoy delicious treats, discover unique artisans and take in some live music, and enter a draw for a market basket, while visiting with family and friends. The market is open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. until October.

Society of York Region Artists Art Show and Sale: The Town of Aurora and Society of York Region Artists host the 60th Annual Aurora Art Show and Sale with more than 300 pieces of artwork, including acrylic, oil, watercolour, photography, mixed media, and sculpture, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aurora Town Hall, 100 John West Way. All artwork is for sale, no admission fee. Local high school visual art classes have been invited to showcase their artwork and sell their pieces. or more information, visit www.aurora.ca/artshow

Holi Celebration: Samosa Master and South Asian Community welcome all to enjoy a free colourful Holi celebration at Fairy Lake Park (barbecue area) in Newmarket from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Outdoor Meditation All Seasons: Join the meditation group every Saturday outdoors in the beautiful setting of Fairy Lake Park at 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., rain or shine, snow or sun, or blizzard (unless extreme.) Some mats, cushions, and chairs will be available. Dress appropriately for the weather, and feel free to bring a mat, cushion or folding chair if you like, but not necessary.

Annual Community Plant Swap, Saturday, May 11: Newmarket Library holds its third plant swap, a great way to exchange plants with others and chat about growing and gardening, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the multipurpose room. Prepare by dividing your perennials such as hostas, irises and others, and place some in pots to share. Or take clippings from your houseplants and root them in pots. Community Living Central York Spring Craft Market, Saturday, May 25: Community Living Central York, 575 Penrose St., Newmarket holds a craft market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Town of Newmarket presents Spoons, Friday, May 31:  Enjoy a night of new wave and pop music from this Juno-nominated band featuring all their hits and fan favourites, along with some new songs and stories from the road at Newmarket’s NewRoads Performing Arts Centre at 7:30 p.m.  Tickets are $49.15. Derrick Ross, Rob Preuss, Gord Deppe and Sandy Horne would help define the sound of pop and New Wave in the ‘80s, with hits including Nova Heart, Romantic Traffic, Old Emotions and Tell No Lies. Their album Arias & Symphonies was named one of the 20 Most Influential Albums of The '80’s by the Chart Magazine

Newmarket Garden Club Annual Plant Sale, Saturday, June 1: Newmarket Garden Club hosts its annual sale from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Ray Twinney Recreation Complex, lounge 2, 100 Eagle St. West, with annuals, perennials, herbs, shrubs, indoor plants all grown by club members.
