Newmarket Juried Art Show, to April 27: The annual juried show continues until April 27 and the reception is April 18 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at the Old Town Hall, 460 Botsford St. No admission charge. Find more details here

Bianca Rollo Band live at Market Brewing: The Bianca Rollo Band brings you all your favourite tunes from across every decade, including rock, pop, country and funk, from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Market Brewing Company, 17775 Leslie St., Newmarket.

Film Fridays at Newmarket Library: Watch free movies at Film Fridays every Friday at Newmarket Public Library. Bring your own snacks, doors open at 1:45 p.m., movie starts at 2 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Saturday, April 27

Goblets and Goblins Renaissance Faire: Annual Renaissance Faire brings history alive with a vibrant tapestry of sights, sounds, and experiences, including blacksmithing demonstrations, sword fighting, themed music, food and drinks from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 17766 Leslie St, Newmarket. Tickets $15 adults, $10 youth. Online registration is closed, however, tickets will be available at the door. If they are at capacity, a line will be formed to let people in as others leave. This event is rain or shine. Ages 10 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

Newmarket Folk Society presents The Barrel Boys: The Barrel Boys are a five-piece acoustic string band whose sound is built around rich vocal harmonies and virtuosic instrumental playing, and their unique repertoire of original material is informed by their fluency in classic bluegrass, old-time, country, and Americana. Each band member writes and sings their own songs, making for a wide stylistic range within the band’s sound. Bernadette Connors Band: Bernadette and her full six-piece band will be playing tune after tune for you to rock out all night at the Newmarket Veterans' Association, 406 Millard, Newmarket. Doors 7 p.m., concert 8 to 11:30 p.m. For tickets, $30, email Dan Fockler at [email protected] (25 per cent of sales and money raised going to MusicCan.) Door prize: A new guitar.

Outdoor Meditation All Seasons: Join the meditation group every Saturday outdoors in the beautiful setting of Fairy Lake Park at 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., rain or shine, snow or sun, or blizzard (unless extreme.) Some mats, cushions, and chairs will be available. Dress appropriately for the weather, and feel free to bring a mat, cushion or folding chair if you like, but not necessary.

Electric Vehicle Showcase: Town of Aurora host the free Electric Vehicle Show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Stronach Aurora Recreation Complex, 1400 Wellington St. E., Aurora where you can learn what it's like to drive electric at a fun-filled, knowledge-packed showcase of electrification. Included is expert live sessions, exhibitors, an electric kids zone,  EV test drives, Electric Avenue: Micro Mobility Test Track, EV owners' showcase.

Newmarket Cycles Group Ride: Explore Newmarket by bike at Newmarket Cycles’ free family-friendly group ride from 3 to 4 p.m., starting and ending 470 Davis Dr. Rides are typically about 10 km long and explore trails, quiet residential streets, and local cycling infrastructure. No registration required.

Pine Tree Potters' Guild Spring 2024 Pottery Show and Sale, May 2 to 5: More than 2,000 unique pieces of both functional and decorative porcelain, stoneware, and Raku pottery are on sale. Duende Kings - A Tribute to the Gipsy Kings, Friday, May 3: Duende Kings bring the passion and emotion of the Gipsy Kings alive in this tribute to the band, recreating their repertoire along with hits of ABBA, The Eagles, Van Morrison, and more, in flamenco-style at the Newmarket Old Town Hall at 7:30 p.m. Tickets $35. Duende Kings are a six-person collective of the GTA’s top musicians: Juneyt (guitar and vocals), Leo Orlov (guitar and vocals), Adam Kurgatnikov (bass), Aaron Seunarine (percussion), Aaron Spink (drums), and David Skolnick (accordion, guitar, piano, and vocals). 

Society of York Region Artists Art Show and Sale, May 4 to 5: The Town of Aurora and Society of York Region Artists host the 60th Annual Aurora Art Show and Sale with more than 300 pieces of artwork, including acrylic, oil, watercolour, photography, mixed media, and sculpture, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aurora Town Hall, 100 John West Way. Annual Community Plant Swap, Saturday, May 11: Newmarket Library holds its third plant swap, a great way to exchange plants with others and chat about growing and gardening, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the multipurpose room. Prepare by dividing your perennials such as hostas, irises and others, and place some in pots to share. Or take clippings from your houseplants and root them in pots. Community Living Central York Spring Craft Market, Saturday, May 25: Community Living Central York, 575 Penrose St., Newmarket holds a craft market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Town of Newmarket presents Spoons, Friday, May 31:  Enjoy a night of new wave and pop music from this Juno-nominated band featuring all their hits and fan favourites, along with some new songs and stories from the road at Newmarket’s NewRoads Performing Arts Centre at 7:30 p.m.  Tickets are $49.15. Derrick Ross, Rob Preuss, Gord Deppe and Sandy Horne would help define the sound of pop and New Wave in the ‘80s, with hits including Nova Heart, Romantic Traffic, Old Emotions and Tell No Lies. Their album Arias & Symphonies was named one of the 20 Most Influential Albums of The '80’s by the Chart Magazine
