Georgina restaurant closed, Woodbridge eatery charged for food safety violations

A restaurant in Georgina was temporarily closed, while a food establishment in Woodbridge was charged with food safety violations by York Region Public Health inspectors last week.

Leo’s Foods at 27887 Highway 48 in Georgina was ordered to close on April 18 for operating in a manner permitting a health hazard and an inadequate supply of potable water available for the operation of the premises, according to the inspection report. An initial inspection was conducted April 15 at which a water sample was taken.

Food handler education was conducted on-site and a closure order was issued.

Funghetto Trattoria at 8611 Weston Rd. unit 12 in Woodbridge was charged with failing to maintain handwashing stations on April 19.

The report notes non-compliance with providing handwashing stations with adequate supplies and failing to maintain handwashing stations on April 17.

Food handler education was carried out on-site, a re-inspection is to be conducted, proof of public health sign was posted and a food sample was taken.

Inspectors were satisfied with a re-inspection on April 19. A ticket was served.
