Newmarket residents can find new treasures along their streets as curbside giveaway days begin Saturday, April 27.
The annual events run once a month through to October. Residents can place unwanted, gently used items labelled 'free' at the curb for other residents to take for their own use.
“This is a great opportunity to give unwanted items a new life while keeping them out of landfill,” the town said on its website.
To participate, residents can bring unwanted items to the curb by 7 a.m. April 27, with the labels. Any unclaimed items must be removed by 5 p.m.
Other days this will be allowed include:
- Saturday, May 25
- Saturday, June 22
- Saturday, July 27
- Saturday, Aug. 24
- Saturday, Sept. 28
- Saturday, Oct. 26
The town said to use your discretion when deciding whether to place items on the curb.
“Items should still be in good condition for reuse or able to be repaired,” the town said.
The town advises keeping items you do not want to give away close to your house or inside to avoid confusion.
Sidewalks and hydrants should be kept clear.
Items you could put out, and find, include books, furniture, small appliances, sports equipment, toys, gadgets, construction materials, artwork, clothing, electronics and more.
The town advises residents not to put out items that could be infested with bed bugs, like mattresses and furniture.
